At the helm of International Insolvency Partners stands its founder, Luisa Sussette Valle Castro, Esq., whose extensive expertise in the realm of insolvency, positions her as a distinguished authority across all facets of the corporate reorganization process, both within and beyond the purview of the Bankruptcy Court.
With over 25 years of experience, Ms. Valle is not afraid of pioneering new approaches in legal consultancy, bringing her knowledge, reputation, and litigation skills to the table. She understands that in these changing times all stakeholders require a new service model focused on the integration of capable professionals with specialized skills.
Her proficiency spans from high profile reorganization cases of corporate and individual debtors to counseling both Debtors and Creditors in all aspects related to bankruptcy proceedings and litigation of complex cases addressing novel issues. Ms. Valle has ample appellate experience before the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the United States Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the First Circuit, and United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, even establishing new case law on various bankruptcy matters.
She graduated with honors from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (1995) where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. She then completed her law degree from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, School of Law (1998) and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
She was also involved in representing various creditors and/or parties with interest in the Title III and Title VI proceedings filed by the Financial and Oversight Management Board for Puerto Rico before the United States District Court under the provisions of the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act, 48 U.S.C. § 2101, et. seq., (PROMESA). This experience allowed her to participate firsthand in this unique process which is the largest municipal bankruptcy case in the history of the United States. She also played a significant role in representing defendants in various multimillion dollar avoidance actions sought within these proceedings.
As a speaker, Ms. Valle has been part of various panels including the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Caribbean Symposium, the Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Bar Association), and offered numerous continued legal education courses related to bankruptcy matters, corporate restructuring under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, bankruptcy litigation, the provisions of The Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act, 48 U.S.C. § 2101, et. seq., (PROMESA) and litigation under this specific and unique restructuring law.
Ms. Valle is an active member of a varied set of professional organizations, both in the United States as internationally, among them: the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Federal Bar Association – Puerto Rico Chapter, the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar Association, INSOL International (a renowned international association of restructuring, insolvency & bankruptcy professionals), INSOL Europe and the International Women Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), a worldwide network committed to the connection, promotion and success of professional women in the restructuring and insolvency field.
